Celebration of Light Event - 2015
The 2015 art project involved various styles of paper cutting. Many cultures have enjoyed paper cutting throughout history. For instance in the USA one particular form of paper cutting was very popular this last century where black paper was used to cut out faces and shapes of people and was called a "Silhouette".
In Japan paper cutting is called "Kirigami", and in Germany it is called "Scherenschnitte". The history of paper cutting can be dated back to the 6th century. From the 7th to 13th century, paper cutting became popular especially during Chinese festivals. The art spread to the rest of the world in the 14th century.
Mississippi artist, Tyler Robinson, is creating a Tree of Light with paper cuts created at the 2015 Celebration of Light Event. The Tree of Light will be displayed at this year's upcoming Event.
